A farsighted Mrs. Dea Mantellassi started Dea in 1963: In the loft of her house Mrs. Dea, helped by her mother Lorena, begins to cut the cloth and sew the articles and take them personally door to door. The quality of the embroidery and the sewing soon brings success and she realizes which customers she should aim at. In this way she gets her first contracts with the most well-known families in Italy.

As the demand increases, Mrs. Dea takes on her first helpers, finding great cooperation with the women in her native village who were specialized in filet crochet by hand, full stitch and embroidery on a frame. Production begins to increase leading to the employment of well-known embroiderers from Lucca and Florence.

At this stage Mrs. Dea decides to open her own workshop of ancient embroidery in San Donato in Poggio, where she specializes in chain stitch embroidery, handmade lace, scalloping and lace application. This remains the strong point of Dea collections.

In 1995 Dea began to sell abroad. We are delighted to have our own collection of bedding sewn, and woven by Dea in Italy.
